Step 1 of 5

About your return

Where you lived on December 31.
Based on your numbers

Ways to lower your tax.

Enter your income above and we’ll suggest ways to save, with an estimate of what each one is worth to you.

Savings are estimates from this calculator using the same tax year and province. They are general ideas, not advice for your situation. Check your RRSP and FHSA room on your notice of assessment or CRA My Account before contributing.

How it works

What the calculator does, and what it leaves out.

It follows the same order as the T1 itself: total income, deductions, net income, tax, credits, then what you have already paid.

Refund or balance owing

Your refund is the tax already taken off your pay (T4 box 22) and any instalments, minus the tax you actually owe. Self-employed people usually owe, because nobody withheld tax or CPP on that income.

Why RRSPs change the number

An RRSP or FHSA deduction comes off your income at your marginal rate. The result panel shows what another $1,000 would add to your refund. For 2026, you can contribute until March 1, 2027.

What is not included

Dividends, pension splitting, spouse and dependant amounts, the Canada workers benefit, Ontario’s LIFT credit and other provincial refundable credits. The GST/HST credit and Canada child benefit are paid separately and are not part of your refund.

Questions

T1 questions we hear every spring.

Short answers. For your exact numbers, we prepare the return.

When is the 2025 T1 return due?
April 30, 2026 for most people. If you or your spouse or common-law partner is self-employed, you have until June 15, 2026 to file, but any balance owing is due April 30.
How long does a refund take?
The CRA aims to send refunds within about two weeks for returns filed online with direct deposit, and around eight weeks for paper returns.
Why does my estimate differ from my real return?
Usually because of something the calculator does not model: dividends, a spouse’s credits, pension splitting, carry-forwards, or a T4 where the payroll deductions were not standard.
Is the Quebec number accurate?
It is a simplified estimate. Quebec residents file a separate TP-1 with Revenu Québec, which has its own deductions and credits. We prepare both returns.

This tool is a quick estimate. A review catches the credits and deductions it cannot, and we file it with the CRA for you.
